Biographical details

Carol is a Professor in the Discipline of Business Information Systems. She joined the University of Sydney in February 2021. She received her Ph.D. in Information Systems from the London School of Economics and Political Science. After graduating, Carol worked in a financial institution in Taiwan for nearly two years. She then began her academic career working in several leading institutions in the Asia-Pacific including City University of Hong Kong, National Taiwan University and Tongji University. Her work has been published in MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Journal of Management Information Systems, and other outlets.

Research interests

Her research interests broadly centre around the institutional influences and cultural practices on the use of information systems at the individual, organizational and interorganizational levels. She has a particular interest regarding these issues in the context of information security management and digital transformation. Her work on information security management focuses on how effectively organizations develop and implement information security programs. In digital transformation context, her work focuses on the interactions between institutional properties, technological features and organizational strategies that influence the design and implementation of digital innovation. Methodologically, her expertise is largely in qualitative methods.
