Dr Karina Murray

Karina is an Associate Professor in the Law School and a University of Sydney Horizon Fellow. She publishes and teaches in legal ethics and is a co-author of Lawyers in Australia (Federation Press, 5th ed, 2025 – pending). Her other research areas include legal education and the legal profession, having completed her PhD on the ethical professional identity of directors of incorporated legal practices.

Through her many years’ experience as an academic, she has developed and taught across a range of subjects, including Ethics and Professional Responsibility, Foundations of Law, Contract Law, and Statutory Interpretation. She has significant expertise in early years tertiary education. In 2015, she received an Australian Award for University Teaching (AAUT citation). In her previous career, Karina worked in a number of positions in the public sector, before moving into executive director roles within the Department of Human Services. In 2016 she took a break from academia to update her skills, managing a regional law firm across 6 locations. She is a founding member of the NSW Women Lawyers' Association Wollongong chapter.
