Senior Lecturer at Sydney School of Public Health
Dr Saman Khalatbari Soltani

Dr Khalatbari-Soltani MSc, PhD is a Senior Lecturer in Population Health at the University of Sydney (USDY) School of Public Health. Khalatbari-Soltani obtained a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Lausanne (2018) and a Public Health PhD certificate from the Swiss School of Public Health (2019). During a one-year fellowship at the University of Cambridge, she trained in Epidemiology (2017).

Khalatbari-Soltani research encompasses two main areas: 1) social determinants of healthy ageing and health inequities– to create a strengths-based approach to healthy ageing to inform policy and health systems and 2) contemporary methodological approaches and challenges in social epidemiology to drive better ways to measure and operationalise socioeconomic indicators.

Her current research encompasses the areas of social determinants of successful ageing, social inequalities and health, and role of behavioural, psychological, and biological factors in the genesis of social disparities in health at older ages– with the ultimate aim of improving perceptions of and indicating possibilities for future health policy. She currently works on data from the Concord Health and Aging in Men Project, to investigate social inequalities and its association with different aspects of healthy aging. Prior to joining the CEPAR, her projects mainly focused on the link between diet and chronic diseases, undernutrition, and drivers and barriers of healthy eating. She has been working on hospital datasets, and cohorts from the UK, and Switzerland. Her research has been published in international journals, including BMC Medicine, the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, and Clinical Nutrition.
