Thesis abstract:
«p»This study will employ an explanatory mixed methods approach to design strategies to improve incentives for responsible research practices among health and medical researchers from Australia’s Group of Eight (Go8) universities. Broadly speaking, these practices encompass actions that promote open science, research integrity, and societal impact. Key players in the scientific ecosystem, including funders and higher education institutions, typically encourage researchers to partake in responsible practices by including incentives in their grant instructions, as well as promotion and tenure criteria, among others. To this end, the study will first evaluate the extent of responsible research practices among full-time academic staff at Go8 universities through a survey. A subset of respondents will then be interviewed to discover barriers to practice. Survey and interview findings will be used to devise practical recommendations for improving the uptake and implementation of responsible research practices.«/p»
