Thesis abstract:
«p»This research project employs a mixed-method approach to examine how pharmaceutical pricing policies are linked to governance and accountability mechanisms in a low -and middle-income country such as Sri Lanka and how such mechanisms manifest the notion of access and social equality. The initial phase encompasses a review of relevant literature on pharmaceutical pricing policies leading to theoretical framing based on the proposed theoretical ideas. In the second phase, a dialogic approach will be deployed in order to reveal the prevailing issues with respect to governance and accountability structure in Sri Lanka. This assessment aims to identify participatory governance and accountability mechanisms in drug pricing and delivery (in terms of access, equity, and safety) within the local context. The finding of this research will inform a constructive debate towards developing a better form of governance and accountability which will permeate a pricing policy that can promote social wellbeing through wider access and social equality.«/p»
