Thesis title: The cost of treatment and quality of life in patients with colorectal liver metastases

Thesis abstract:

«p»There has only been limited focus on the ever-increasing cost of cancer treatment in Australia. Several studies have estimated total cost which includes the diagnosis, treatment and management of patients. However, this is difficult to do comprehensively because of the multiple funding sources in the Australian healthcare system. To date in Australia there have been no studies in relation to the total cost, and no studies that have done a cost-benefit analysis of treating patients referred for resection of CRLM. In part, this is because treatment algorithms have been evolving so rapidly over the past 20 years but also because there are multiple potential different treatment pathways that might impact on a cost analysis.«/p» «p»The aim is to undertake a comprehensive cost analysis of the investigation and treatment of a cohort of patients who underwent resection of colorectal liver metastases (CRLM). This is an attempt to identify the overall cost of the total management (including work up) of patients diagnosed with CRLM and who are referred for possible curative liver resection.«/p»
