Thesis abstract:
«p style="text-align:justify"»Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is a lifelong autoimmune disease associated with increased morbidity and early mortality compared to the general population. Currently, there is a lack of data available on the health outcomes of those diagnosed with T1DM in childhood. This study will investigate the long-term health care and health outcomes of adults with childhood-onset T1DM, using a record linkage cohort study. All NSW children diagnosed and registered with childhood onset T1DM since 1990 will be record-linked to various datasets, including clinical hospital diabetes databases, and New South Wales (NSW) and Commonwealth administrative health datasets. Statistical analyses will include descriptive statistics, Cox-proportional hazard models, Poisson regression models and logistic regression models. The results will provide evidence as to how models of care during childhood can affect long-term health care and health outcomes.«/p»
