Who's eligible

You must:

  • be a domestic student
  • have studied your Higher School Certificate at a government high school
  • be starting a single or combined undergraduate degree at the University of Sydney Business School
  • have achieved an ATAR (or equivalent) of 98 in the NSW HSC or equivalent.

1. Background

a. This Scholarship was established in 2003 by a donation from Professor Wayne Lonergan to support domestic students who attended a State High School and will commence an undergraduate degree administered by the Business School.

2. Eligibility

a. Applicants must have attended a government high school.

b. Applicants must be Domestic students.

c. Applicants must have successfully applied through UAC to commence an undergraduate degree administered by the University of Sydney Business School.

d. Applicants must have and achieved an ATAR (or equivalent) of at least 98 in the NSW HSC or equivalent.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:

I. academic merit, and
II. answers provided in the common undergraduate application form, including demonstrated leadership skills, community involvement, extra-curricular participation, academic achievements, and an interest in Business.

b. The Scholarship will be awarded by the Dean of the University of Sydney Business School, or their nominated delegates.

4. Value

a. The Scholarship is valued at $10,000 per annum and is tenable for up to three years, plus an additional year for completion of the Bachelor of Advanced Studies (where applicable).

b. The Scholarship annual value will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester.

c. Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted.

d. Transfer of the Scholarship to another degree program is not permitted without the permission of the Dean responsible for the initial program and does not involve lengthening the tenure of this Scholarship.

e. If extenuating circumstances arise, the recipient may submit a request to decrease their study load to a minimum full-time load per semester (18 credit points), but only with the permission of the Faculty. The duration of the Scholarship will not be extended if a recipient undertakes a minimum full-time load.

f. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

g. No other amount is payable.

5. Ongoing eligibility

a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must enrol in at least 22 credit points each semester and maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 75. Undertaking a minimum full-time load will not extend the duration of the scholarship.

b. Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required to have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.

6. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,
II. enrols in fewer than 22 credit points in a semester without prior approval by the Business School,
III. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,
IV. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,
V. accepts an alternative multi-year scholarship, administered by the University of Sydney, valued at $6,000 per annum or more,
VI. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave, or
VII. any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination.

b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.

7. Other Requirements

a. Scholarship recipients may be invited to promote the program in which they are enrolled, represent the University of Sydney at student welcome, marketing events and corporate networking events and fulfil the on-campus functions of a Business School Student Ambassador.
