Dr Samantha Livingstone
Samantha graduated from the University of Queensland in 2011 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Hons). She then went on to work in small animal practice and moved into working strictly in emergency and critical care in 2014. She obtained her memberships in emergency and critical care in 2017 with the ANZCVS. She returned to the University of Queensland in late 2018 to complete a PhD in critical care with the Critical Care Research Group (The Prince Charles Hospital, Brisbane) whist continuing to work as an emergency and critical care Veterinarian.
Previous and ongoing research projects involve:
- Coagulation dysfunction and biomarkers in the acute respiratory distress syndrome subphenotypes
- The use of hypothermic ex vivo perfusion to improve ischaemic storage times for heart transplants
- The development and assessment of novel peripheral intravenous catheters to reduce early failure rates.
- The assessment of respiratory system elastance after nebulisation of differing solutions
- The use of veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in severe cardiopulmonary failure
- COVID-19 Critical Care Consortium
- SpecklE-tracking echocardiography
- Coagulation dysfunction of heart disease in cats and dogs
