Dr Vincenzo Costa
Dr. Vincenzo Costa is a postdoctoral researcher at The Sydney School of Veterinary Science (SSVS). He received a BAdvSc and MRes from the Department of Biological Sciences at Macquarie University, Australia. His thesis employed metatranscriptomic sequencing to reveal virus diversity and evolution in invasive European carp in the Murray-Darling Basin, Australia. In 2024, he completed his PhD at The University of Sydney under the supervision of Prof. Edward Holmes, where he explored viral transmission dynamics in teleost fishes from the Great Barrier Reef and Lake Tanganyika. Vincenzo’s research focuses on understanding how pathogens emerge in new animal species through cross-species transmission, with a particular emphasis on aquatic ecosystems.
