Multispecies Justice and Urban Transitions workshop

SEI are hosting a multidisciplinary workshop on Multispecies Justice and Urban Transitions with visiting scholar Professor Christopher Raymond from the University of Helsinki.

This workshop will bring together key researchers from across the University of Sydney and beyond to share perspectives on urban transformation in relation to biodiversity and multispecies justice.

SEI are convening this workshop as an occasion to stimulate larger conversations about collaborative research moving forward.

The all-day workshop was held at the University of Sydney on Friday, 21 June 2024.

During this workshop Christopher Raymond will speak about his work on the MUST research project, which aims to understand the types of relationships between humans and other species that could produce and sustain ecologically and socially just outcomes. This work also aims to build social-ecological resilience in urban and regional areas by rethinking nature-based solutions processes, structures and practices from a multispecies perspective. The Sydney Environment Institute is a formal partner in the MUST project.

The workshop will be chaired by Professor Danielle Celermajer.

Workshop participants are invited to give a five-minute presentation on their work in this area.

Please note, this is a closed, invitation only workshop.

Call for submissions

Christopher Raymond and SEI’s David Schlosberg currently have an open call for submissions to a collection in Nature Urban Sustainability on “Applying multispecies justice in nature-based solutions and urban sustainability planning”.

Deadline Saturday, 30 November 2024. Participants may use their presentation to develop a submission idea for the collection, but this is not a requirement.
