Dr Arianna Brambilla
Associate Dean (Education)
Co-chair of the cluster Building Efficiencies of the Smart Sustainable Building Network
Associate Professor Arianna Brambilla was awarded a Ph.D. with honours in Building Engineering from Politecnico di Milano (IT). Her background in both architecture and engineering allowed her to establish her research field at the merging borders of architecture, construction, building physics, and engineering. Drawing upon the different disciplines to assess and interpret construction as a holistic concept, with a strong focus on sustainability. Her research interests relate to human-centered design, building performance assessment, low-carbon living, construction and innovative technologies, and healthy built environments. Arianna is also the co-chair of the Building Efficiencies cluster in the Smart Sustainable Building Network.
Arianna is particularly interested in supervision and work in the following areas:
- Improving the quality of the built environment through enhanced building performance, especially in regard to sustainable design solutions and materials application.
- Low-carbon living solutions: techniques, materials and strategies to reduce life cycle carbon emissions.
- Enhancing the durability of buildings and providing healthy indoor environment: transient assessment of building components hygrothermal performance
- Providing healthier indoor environment: the psychological component of comfort and daylight
- Design and construction in the future: re-imagine architecture

Eco-active building envelopes The Grand Challenge:Climate change is already impacting the global environment. An urgent reduction in global carbon emissions is the only viable path to mitigate global warming and ensure the survival of the ecosystems on our planet. The Mission:To lay the groundwork for a new generation of buildings that are self-sufficient in energy and water consumption, able to produce on-site food to encourage healthy eating habits and contribute to the regulation of heat stress and pollution within dense urban environments.

Hot cities and the boomerang effect
March 17, 2023 |360info
Cities and their inhabitants are a main driver of climate change and, ironically, potentially the main victims. Here's how that could be fixed.
