About this honours subject area
Pathology is the study of disease using the techniques of modern cell biology. The aim is to understand how cellular and molecular mechanisms interact during disease processes.
Studies in pathology emphasise mechanisms of disease pathogenesis, including the molecular and cellular mechanisms that underlie cancer, inflammatory and infectious diseases.
These pathological mechanisms are illustrated by considering specific diseases in a range of systems, including the neurological, cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine and gastrointestinal systems.
The honours year in pathology provides an ideal way for you to gauge your potential for a career in research. You will undertake an independent research project which culminates in the completion of a thesis covering your research and results. You will also complete relevant coursework units.
On offer is a diverse range of research projects from research areas such as macromolecular structure, molecular immunopathology, neuropathology, viral immunopathology and more.
Unit of study requirements for Honours in the area of Pathology: completion of 36 credit points of project work and 12 credit points of coursework.
