Biographical details

Andrew Bleasel is a Neurologist at Westmead Hospital. He became interested in epilepsy while training in Neurology and went on to a Clinical Fellowship in Epilepsy at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He came to Westmead Hospital in 1996 where he was the Director of the Epilepsy Unit until 2021. He was the Head of the Department of Neurology; 2008-2016. He was the President of the Epilepsy Society of Australia, 2010-2012 and remains on the ESA Executive Committee. In 2016 he joined the Westmead Clinical School, Sydney Medical Program where he was Academic Leader, Education 2016-2020 and Head of Clinical School 2022-2023. He teaches Clinical Epilepsy and Neurophysiology throughout Southeast Asia and Australia.

Research interests

His current research interests include the anatomy of seizure propagation, Epilepsy genetics and the Epileptology of primary brain tumours.

Teaching and supervision

With Dr Ernest Somerville he created the Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists Annual EEG teaching course.

He teaches Clinical Epilepsy and EEG throughout South East Asia and Australia.

In 2015 he became the Director of Physician training at Westmead Hospital

In 2016 he joined the Clinical School at Westmead, Sydney Medical School, as Academic Lead, Education
