Associate Professor Angela Chou

A/Prof Angela Chou is a surgical pathologist at the Royal North Shore Hospital. She is also a translational researcher at the Kolling Institute with the Cancer Diagnosis and Pathology Group. She is actively involved in all aspects of research in all gastrointestinal cancers and endocrine tumours. She also has a special interest in renal tranplant pathology and collaborates with the RNSH renal transplant team on using molecular diagnostics to improve clinical outcome.

A/Prof Chou received her Royal College of Pathologists (RCPA) fellowship in 2010 then worked as a part-time surgical pathologist at the St Vincent's Hospital whilst completing her research in pancreatic cancer. She completed her PhD (UNSW) in 2017 then her post-doctoral fellowship in 2020 at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. She was a member of the Australian Pancreatic Genome Inititative (APGI) during this period that sequenced >400 pancreatic cancer as part of their collaboration with the International Cancer Genome Initiative (ICGC). A/Prof has received multiple awards for her work in pancreatic cancer including the Cancer Institute of NSW 'The Rising Star Phd Student' award in 2015 and the Cancer Institute of NSW Early Career 'Outstanding Cancer Research Fellow' Award in 2020. In 2019 she joined the Anatomical Pathology Department at Royal North Shore Hospital and the team of researchers at the Kolling Institute/University of Sydney.

A/Prof is actively involved in medical student teaching and is passionate about advocating the importance of pathology in medicine. She is an associated editor for Pathology - the offical journal for the Royal College of Pathologists Australasia. She is a member of the Australian Gastro-Intestinal Trial Group (AGITG) Translational Research committee. She is a member of the University of Sydney Thyroid Cancer Research Group
