Dr Liu is Senior Lecturer – Paediatrics at the Sydney Medical School Nepean. He is also affiliated with the Charles Perkins Centre Nepean and an Honorary Associate in General Medicine at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network.

Dr Liu’s main areas of interest are the developmental origins of health and disease with a specific focus on perinatology and research methodology include data linkages. Other research interests include infants of substance using mothers and paediatric and adolescent diabetes.

- The effects of maternal obesity in perinatal medicine
- The effects of climate on pregnancy
- Maternal-foetal evolutionary conflict
- Applying artificial intelligence to image-processing of fetal ultrasounds
- Paediatric diabetes and transition to adult medicine.
Paediatric research is a particular strength at Nepean. We have the Charles Perkins Centre Nepean and we also have established collaborations with the Clinical School at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Nepean has a strong community base and places paediatric research within the context of the entire life cycle by collaborations with researchers in other medical and non-medical specialities, from obstetrics and neonatology through to geriatrics and dietetics.
