Professor David Templeton

Professor David Templeton is a Sexual Health Physician and medical epidemiologist who has been specialising in management of HIV and other STIs for over 20 years. He holds appointments as Head of Department, Sexual Health Medicine and of the Sexual Assault Medical Service for Sydney Local Health District , based at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney's inner west and Associate Professor at the Kirby Institute, UNSW. Professor Templeton completed his PhD in 2008 on HIV & Sexually Transmissible Infection epidemiology in a large community-based cohort study of Australian gay men - the Health in Men (HIM) study.

Professor Templeton's research interests focus on HIV and STI epidemiology, prevention of HIV, and improving the health of those living with HIV. He was Member of the Australian Antiretroviral Guidelines Panel from 2011to 2013, has been Chair of the Steering Committee for the Australian HIV Observational Database since 2015. His current research focus is the Study for the Prevention of Anal cancer (SPANC) investigating the natural history of anal human papillomavirus infection and pre-cancerous anal lesions in gay men in an effort to prevent anal cancer in this population.

Professor Templeton has been Chair of the Advanced Training Committee in Sexual Health Medicine of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and Lead in Training Site Accreditation since 2016.
