Dr Dean Picone

Dr Dean Picone is a Senior Research Fellow in the School of Health Sciences, University of Sydney. Dean holds a NHMRC Emerging Leader Level 1 Fellowship (2023-7) and previously held a National Heart Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship (2021-2). Dean is also an Adjunct Senior Researcher at the University of Tasmania, and Chair of the New Investigator Committee of the International Society of Hypertension. Dean's research visionis to improve cardiovascular health by improving awareness, detection and management of high blood pressure using innovative, accurate and consumer accepted measurement methods.

Cardiovascular disease prevention and management

Strategies to diagnose high blood pressure

Public health

Large artery physiology

Innovation to improve blood pressure monitoring

Research projects are available for Honours and postgraduate research programs, including clinicians.

HOME BP DEVICES: improving understanding of blood pressure devices used by community members for self/home measurement are appropriate for detection and management of high blood pressure. There are several projects available under this program.

INNOVATION AND PHYSIOLOGY: assessment of an array of blood pressure devices within cardiac catheterisation settings. Detailed physiological assessment of patients will be performed to determine novel physiological factors that are related to the precision of different blood pressure measurement devices in different clinical cohorts.
