Thesis work
Thesis title: Rights-based approach to agriculture, trade, and land policy for food and nutrition security.
Supervisors: Bill Pritchard, Anne Marie Thow
Thesis abstract:
The United Nations (UN) Food Systems Summit, held in September 2021, reflects a global commitment to bring about tangible, positive and sustainable change to food systems. The inclusion of human rights within food system policies and initiatives, is critical to achieve better food system outcomes. However, following the conclusion of the Summit, an explicit human rights approach was notably missing from much of the dialogue, therefore limiting the potential of the Summit to bring about positive food systems change. Using a qualitative narrative and policy analysis, and case study research methodology, this research project aims to understand and identify opportunities to strengthen the integration of human rights discourse into food systems policy at the global and national level. The outcomes of this research will directly benefit food systems policy actors at the global and national level.
