Dr Heidi Morahan

Heidi joined the Discipline of Exercise and Sports Science in 2025 after working as a sessional academic at the University of Sydney during her PhD tenure. Her expertise spans exercise physiology, physical activity and population health, chronic disease management, and the role of maternal nutrition in metabolic health. She is also engaged in developing best practices in the conduct and use of animals for scientific purposes and the implementation of a culture of care in animal research.

Her research explores the effects of prenatal exposure to high-sugar and non-nutritive sweetener diets on metabolic development, employing a mixed-methodological approach to enhance pre-clinical translation. She has contributed to multiple peer-reviewed publications and collaborates with interdisciplinary research teams in health sciences.

Heidi is passionate about teaching and curriculum development, delivering undergraduate units in exercise science and physiology and coordinating a multidisciplinary online unit on physical activity and population health. As an academic mentor, she supports undergraduate research projects, fostering critical thinking and evidence-based practice in allied health.
