Dr James Kite
Academic Coordinator, Master of Public Health
James is Senior Lecturer within the Prevention Research Collaboration (PRC). His research with the PRC is focused on the use and evaluation of social marketing within public health, including the role of social media as a communication channel. He is also heavily involved in teaching postgraduate students, including as Deputy Director Academic Education for the Sydney School of Public Health.
James' research interests are predominately in social marketing, especially in relation to the role that social media and other digital media can and does play in public health. This extends to examining the commercial determinants of health, including the role that media plays in perpetuating and combatting weight stigma. He also has interests in research translation and the interface between researchers and decision makers. Additionally, James has an interest in research into teaching and learning in the postgraduate context.
James is the Unit Coordinator for PUBH5033: Disease prevention and health promotion, along with Prof Philayrath Phongsavan. He also teaches into a number of other units, including PUBH5418: Tobacco Control in the 21st Century, and supervises higher degree research students and coursework students completing research projects.
