Professor Emeritus Jane Latimer

Dr Jane Latimer is a Professor in the School of Public Health and Deputy Director of the Institute for Musculoskeletal Health. In 2016 she was appointed Visiting Professor of Musculoskeletal Science and Rehabilitation at The University of Oxford. She leads research in 3 main areas. The first and largest area is the primary care management of spinal pain, while the second and third are smaller areas in paediatrics, specifically fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD), and children with haemophilia.

In 2016 Prof Latimer was appointed STEMM advisor to Elizabeth Broderick & Co, an organisation working with the Federal Government and The Academies of Science to develop strategies to increase the representation of female research leaders in STEMM. She is providing advice on a STEMM Male Champions of Change strategy and advising the Chair of the External Advisory Committee for the SAGE pilot, a gender equality initiative to be conducted across Australian universities and research organisations. In 2018 she was appointed to the expert working group for the Academy of Science Women in STEM Decadal Plan. This plan is the first time stakeholders have come together across the sector to achieve gender equity in STEM.

Jane is interested in the diagnosis, management and prevention of common musculoskeletal conditions, in particular, back pain. She is also working to accelerate the careers of women in STEMM.
