Dr Joanna Diong

Joanna is a physiotherapist who specialises in applying causal analysis methods in the treatment and prevention of disease. She applies these methods in clinical trials and observational studies in pain and disability, spinal cord injury, and human motor control. An arm of her work investigates solutions to improve the value of health and medical research. She practices open science by making de-identified data and code publicly available (Github repository) and registering study protocols (OSF repository). She also has a sustained interest in good scientific practices, and co-writes the blog Scientifically Sound as a resource on sound science.

Jo teaches functional anatomy and anatomical analysis of human movement. She co-leads the Bias in Research Node at the Charles Perkins Centre, serves as Research Integrity Advisor at The University of Sydney, and as Reviewing Editor for the Journal of Applied Physiology and Physiological Reports.
