Associate Professor Kim Bulkeley

​Kim is an occupational therapist with over 25 years experience in the community disability sector in front line, management, policy and research roles.

Kim has a continuing position with the Occupational Therapy Discipline at the Faculty of Health Sciences in a teaching and research role. Kim is passionate about her research work with remote communities in north western NSW increasing access to allied health services through action research methods.

Kim completed her PhD in 2017, investigating a family centred intervention for young children with autism and has published this work in peer reviewed journals and a book chapter.

Kim is committed to developing and supporting future generations of occupational therapists through authentic learning and involvement of students in professional networks and activities beyond their units of study.

Kim teaches an Intellectual Disability elective to final year occupational therapy students; School occupations unit to final year MOT students; and Evaluation in Professional Practice to completing undergraduate Occupational Therapy students.

1. Quinine Aboriginal allied health assistant project in partnership with Western NSW LHD, the NSW ministry of Health and the Poche Centre for Indigenous Health. Due for completion in June 2019

2. Allied health assistants in the Tasmanian NDIS sector - commissioned research with National Disability Services (NDS). Completed in September 2018

3. Allied health student placements in the NSW early childhood intervention sector - commissioned research with Early Childhood Intervention Australia - NSW Chapter. Due for completion in June 2019

4. ARC Indigenous Discovery Grant - Retention of the Aboriginal health and disability workforce. Commencing in April 2019 for three years

5. ARC Indigenous Discover Grant - Planning for a better life under the National Disability Insurance Scheme. Commencing in April 2019 for three years.

Most Innovative Paper Award - I co-authored a paper for the National Virtual Disability Conference March 2018 entitled: Tele-practice for quality NDIS allied health services: evidence informing innovation, This paper received the “Most Innovative Paper Award” recognising the cutting edge nature of the work we are undertaking in partnership with the disability sector on telepractice.
