Mr Martin Brown
School of Medical Sciences
Faculty of Medicine and Health
Co-Director FMH Media Lab
Martin is a Senior Lecturer and Co-Director of the FMH Media Lab.
Drawing on his background in theatre and film, Martin is interested in creating indelible learning experiences through a combination of ancient techniques like storytelling and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, and virtual and augmented reality. For example, the FMH Media Lab is developing and deploying conversational avatars that provide rehearsal of a range of clinical interactions, from de-escalating violent patients, to breaking bad news.
Martin teaches a range of skills in science communication, from public speaking and presenting to creating media products, from podcasts to videos and virtual reality environments. These skills are essential any workplace but are also essential in persuading patients to change behaviours for more beneficial health outcomes.
