Professor Mu Li
Public Health, School of Public Health
Mu Li is a Professor and director of International Public Health since January 2016, at the Sydney School of Public Health, the University of Sydney. Professor Li obtained her Medical degree from Shanxi Medical University, China in 1982; completed PhD at the University of Sydney in 1992 and Master of Health Services Management at Charles Sturt University in 1999. Professor Li’s main research contributions are in public health nutrition, particularly iodine deficiency and excess that are highly cited, and public health program evaluation. She has a strong track record in developing cross cultural and cross discipline research collaborations. Professor Li led the research collaboration between Fudan University, China and the University of Sydney in one of the world’s first mhealth studies in infant and young child feeding, which was published in the Lancet Global Health “New Voices in Global Health” in 2013 and JAMA Paediatrics in 2014. She has also led the human nutrition component of a multi-disciplinary, nutrition sensitive research project aimed at improving maternal and child food and nutrition security in Tanzania and Zambia, as well as several research capacity building programs, including the DFAT Australian Awards Fellowship program on Regional Collaboration for Childhood Obesity Prevention Research, involving researchers from China, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam (2011); Evidence-based Policy and Program Development for Improved Adolescent Health and Nutrition, Indonesia (2017-8); and contribute to the Africa Short Course: Increasing the Development Impact of Agricultural Research since 2015. Professor Li led the development and transition from Master of International Public Health to Australian first Master of Global Health.
