Professor Peter Hockey

Peter joined the Faculty of Medicine and Health in May 2019 as Professor of Clinical Education, and Western Sydney LHD as Director of Education within the Research & Eduvation Network. He joins us from the UK’sNHS where he was most recently Postgraduate Dean in Health Education England Wessex and remained a very part-time Respiratory Physician in outpatient practice. As Dean he was responsible for assuring the delivery of postgraduate education to approximately2500 doctors in training across all primary and secondary care, as well as being accountable to the GMC for all professional issues identified in his role as Responsible Officer for revalidation. Most recently he oversaw a major change in the implementationof Core Medical Training (Basic Physician Training) across England. Peter brings with him extensive experience of assuring education quality and developing novel educational opportunities to help prepare a workforce fit for the future. In his current role he will be workingclosely with the Westmead Clinical School and with the Executive Dean in FMH to develop an education quality framework to demonstrate the quality of education across the LHD and the Westmead Precinct. He is keen to engage and support educators and all cliniciansin training to hear their ideas for further improving the educational experience across the LHD.
