Professor Tim Shaw
Director Research in Implementation Science and eHealth (RISe)
Charles Perkins Centre
School of Medical Sciences
Principal Investigator, Westmead Applied Research Centre
Tim is Professor of Digital Health and Director of the Research in Implementation Science and eHealth Group (RISe) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney. He is Solutions Domain Lead for the Charles Perkins Centre and Principal Investigator in the Westmead Applied Research Centre. He co-Chairs the Sydney Health Partners Clinical Academic Group in Virtual Care.
Tim specialises in building partnerships across industry, services, government, communities and academia to deliver high impact research translation. His research focuses on how digital health can support new models of care as well as how health data can support performance review and feedback (Practice Analytics). He is a Flagship Research and Education Director in the $112M Digital Health Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) and co-led the successful bid.
Tim and his team have a number of research interest including:
- How emerging health data can be used by teams and individuals to enhance clinician and team performance and inform quality improvement. This includes the development of interactive dashboards and adaptive and targeted online education programs.
- How technology can support the rollout of new patient-centred models of care
- Use of telehealth to support remote care
- How facilitated networks and online communities of practice can support translational, multidisciplinary care.
In all Tim’s research he focusses on practical outcomes and working closely with clinicians, managers and operational teams within healthcare facilities.
Tim leads the development of education in eHealth in the Faculty of Health. This includes developing full Units of Study in eHealth as well tols and resources for insertion in all Units of Study.
Tim is currently develop a Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) for health professionals on the role of technology.
