  • achieve a minimum ATAR (or equivalent) of 96 and above.

Background

Established in 2021, this Scholarship has been generously funded by the Faculty of Engineering to encourage and support international students commencing an undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney.

Terms and Conditions

1. Background

a. Established in 2021, this Scholarship has been generously funded by the Faculty of Engineering to encourage and support international students commencing an undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney.

2. Eligibility

a. Applicants must be an international student.

b. Applicants must be current school leavers who qualify for entry into an undergraduate program (including combined degrees) in 2023 in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney.

c. Applicants must have an unconditional offer of admission to a full-time bachelor’s degree (including combined degrees) in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney.

d. Applicants must enrol full-time in a bachelor’s degree (including combined degrees) in the Faculty of Engineering in 2023 at the University of Sydney.

3. Selection Criteria

a. Applicants must achieve a GCE A level or International Baccalaureate equivalent to an ATAR of 96 and above to be considered for the scholarship.

b. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:

I. academic merit based on the candidate’s performance in the HSC equivalent, and
II. a personal statement addressing the following points:
• demonstrated leadership qualities including innovation and self-motivation,
• achievements in non-academic pursuits and/or community ventures.
• Successful applicants will be expected to volunteer at Engineering student life events to support student experience activities in the faculty

c. Preference will be given to applicants who have not been offered other similar or higher value University of Sydney scholarships.

d. The Scholarship will be awarded by a selection committee consisting of the Associate Dean Education or their appointed nominee.

4. Value

a. The Scholarship is valued at $13,000 per year and tenable for up to 4 years (which is the duration of a standard engineering degree).

b. The Scholarship will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester.

c. Deferral of the Scholarship or transfer to another School within the Faculty of Engineering is not permitted and it is not transferable to another faculty or university.

d. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

e. No other amount is payable.

5. Ongoing eligibility

a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 70 each semester.

b. Recipients must enrol and continue to be enrolled full-time in the same degree within the Faculty of Engineering. Any change in Engineering degree or stream will require prior approval of the Associate Dean, Education.

c. Part-time enrolment is not permitted.

d. Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required to have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.

6. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,
II. changes enrolment to a different Engineering degree or stream without prior approval
III. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,
IV. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their University application,
V. accepts an alternative primary scholarship administered by the University of Sydney valued at $8,000 per annum or more for the same purpose as this scholarship,
VI. accepts an alternative scholarship administered by the Faculty of Engineering or any School within the Faculty of Engineering, valued at $6,000 per annum or more for the same purpose as this scholarship. The exception to this is where the recipient is awarded a placement scholarship, in which case this scholarship will be suspended for the duration of the placement. It will be reinstated at the completion of the placement if there is any scholarship candidature remaining. The value of this scholarship for the period of the placement will be forfeited,
VII. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave, or
VIII. any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination.

b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
