This Scholarship is awarded to exceptional international students commencing a Juris Doctor (JD) or Master of Laws (LLM) at the University of Sydney Law School.
The Scholarship is funded by the Sydney Law School.
1. Background
a. This Scholarship is awarded to exceptional international students commencing a Juris Doctor (JD) or Master of Laws (LLM) at the University of Sydney Law School.
b. The Scholarship is funded by the Sydney Law School.
2. Eligibility
a. The Scholarship is offered subject to the applicant being an international student and having an unconditional offer of admission in full-time studies in either a JD or LLM degree within the University of Sydney Law School.
b. Applicants who have already commenced their JD or LLM studies or students transferring from other programs are not eligible.
3. Selection Criteria
a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:
I. academic merit and
II. a personal statement demonstrating leadership experience, communication skills, personal interests, community engagement, and reasons for pursuing the study of law.
b. The Scholarship will be awarded on the nomination of a selection committee consisting of the Head of School and Dean of the Sydney Law School, or their nominated delegate and one other staff member from the School.
4. Value
a. Two scholarship amounts will be offered based on the applicants ranking against the selection criteria:
i. Full tuition fees for the duration of the degree, or
ii. $10,000 per annum for the duration of the degree, payable in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester.
b. The Scholarship value will be stipulated in the Scholarship Offer Letter at the time of award.
c. Deferral or suspension of the Scholarship is not permitted.
d. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.
e. No other amount is payable.
5. Ongoing eligibility
a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 65.
b. Recipients must maintain full-time enrolment (24 credit points) in each semester.
c. Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required to have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.
6. Termination
a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:
I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,
II. commences part-time study without prior approval from the Head of School and Dean of the Sydney Law School,
III. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,
IV. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,
V. is awarded an alternative primary scholarship. In such circumstances this scholarship will be terminated in favour of the alternative scholarship where the alternative scholarship is of higher value,
VI. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave, or
VII. if the student ceases to meet the eligibility requirements specified for this Scholarship.
b. Once a Scholarship has been terminated, it cannot be reinstated unless due to University error.
c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
