Please note: Applications generally open two months before the start of each semester.

Who's eligible

You must:

  • be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney. 
  • remain enrolled full time in USSC3703 or USSC6205 within the calendar year of their commencement.

Background

The USSC Student Internship Scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to students who wish to undertake an internship that complements their studies at the University of Sydney and is funded by the United States Studies Centre (the Centre).

1. Background

a. The USSC Student Internship Scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to students who wish to undertake an internship that complements their studies at the University of Sydney.

b. This Scholarship is funded by the United States Studies Centre (the Centre).

2. Eligibility

a. Applicant must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney. 

b. Applicant must remain enrolled full time in USSC3703 or USSC6205 within the calendar year of their commencement.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:

I. academic merit, 

II. a personal statement demonstrating their commitment and suitability to the USSC student internship program

b. The Scholarship will be awarded by a selection committee comprised of the: 

I. Academic Director and Chair of American Studies, or 

II. their nominated delegates, and 

III. at least one other academic in American Studies. 

4. Value

a. The Scholarship is valued at up to $1500 and will be paid as a one-off payment on receipt of the Scholarship Acceptance Form. The value will be determined by the Academic Director and Chair of American Studies and will be stipulated in the Scholarship offer letter to the recipient(s)

b. The scholarship cannot be transferred to another University school, faculty or university.

c. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

d. No other amount is payable.

5. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,

II. withdraws from the approved internship, 

III. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance, 

IV. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application, or

V. does not resume study at the end of their internship or a period of approved leave.

b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.  

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
