Application and semester dates

Discover when to apply and when courses commence
Each year we have two intakes, Semester 1 (February) and Semester 2 (August).

The dates listed on this page are standard dates and apply to many of our courses. However, some courses follow different dates and may not be available in both semesters. Check course information pages for exact dates.

Application dates

There are different application dates for each type of course.

Domestic and international students have, in most cases, different undergraduate application dates.

Domestic students

Domestic students apply through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) and not directly to the University of Sydney. Check the UAC website for key dates, including when to submit your application and payment.

International students

Generally, applications open two years before the course start date. Closing dates are listed in the following table.

Semester 1 (Feb) 1 December of the year prior to commencement
Semester 2 (Aug) 15 May of the commencing year

Please note: we are currently updating our degree pages, and the application closing dates displayed on some might vary to the above. We recommend you check your degree page regularly for the latest advice on application closing dates.

Whilst the majority of our degrees follow the dates listed in this table, we also encourage you to apply early as applications can close prior to the advertised closing dates if course capacity is reached.

Important notes and exceptions

  • If you are applying for a Sciences Po Dual Degree or a diploma, you need to apply directly to the University of Sydney, even if you are applying through UAC for your other preferences.
  • Most international students apply directly to the University of Sydney but some must apply through the University Admissions Centre (UAC) and should refer to the UAC website for key dates. To check if you need to apply through UAC as an international student, refer to the ‘Submit your application’ tab on the how to apply page.
