Dr Daniel Hackett

Dr Daniel Hackett is an experienced researcher in clinical and athletic populations. Daniel’s research is mainly focused on the performance and physiological effects of resistance training in both acute and chronic contexts. Muscle adaptations following resistance training is another major focus of Daniel’s research in numerous populations ranging from strength/power athletes to people with neuromuscular disease. Daniel is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist with a passion for optimising exercise prescription to improve health and physical performance. Daniel is interested in identifying and manipulating resistance exercise variables to optimise training adaptations. He makes every effort to promote the benefits of resistance training for all populations. Daniel also has a strong desire to increase the opportunity for all people across their life to regularly engage in effective resistance training practices so that their lives can be positively transformed.

Daniel is a very passionate teacher who thrives on advancing his students' knowledge and understanding of the effects of resistance training practices to enhance health, fitness, and athletic performance. Where possible, Daniel integrates his research findings into his teaching to ensure that students are provided with a unique experience to enhance their knowledge and development of exercise assessment and prescription.

Daniel is currently involved in collaborative research within and outside of The University of Sydney. One clinical trial is in collaboration with researchers from Norway, Italy and Gold Coast (Bond University) investigating the effects of progressive resistance exercise on gut microbiota and inflammation in people with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. He is also involved in another study examining athlete talent identification and development with a researcher from the School of Physical Education, Minnan Normal University, China.
