Juliana's research interests include:
- Harnessing digital health, including telehealth, smartphone apps and artificial intelligence, to support patient self-monitoring of weight and self-management of chronic diseases. Juliana has led evaluation of patient outcomes in real-world weight management clinics.
- Developing training and practice frameworks to support dietitians (both the current and future dietitian profession) in more effectively utilising health apps for remote counselling and more timely intervention modification for enhanced patient behaviour change.
- Developing public health strategies that incorporate use of mobile health technologies to deliver interventions that improve the health and wellbeing of the population. For example, Juliana has worked on dietary assessment tools for young adults in Australia, as well as for children and families in the Pacific Islands including New Caledonia.
- Developing valid and robust digital dietary assessment tools for integration into existing health services to enhance nutrition therapy.
- Nutrition interventions to improve cognitive outcomes of older Australians. Juliana leads and oversees the dietary intervention arm of the multidomain AU-ARROW intervention aimed at reducing dementia risk through changing modifiable lifestyle risks.
