Ms Rebecca McNaught

Rebecca McNaught is a Research Fellow - Rural and Remote Health with the Menzies School of Health Policy and Economics, School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health. She is based at the University Centre for Rural Health in Lismore, New South Wales. Rebecca brings over 20 years of experience working on climate change adaptation and disaster risk management across the Asia, Pacific and Middle East regions. Her recent PhD research has focused on collaborative governance of climate change and disasters in the Pacific Islands and the Northern Rivers NSW. Rebecca is a contributing author to the Sixth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (contributing to the Small Islands and Climate Resilient Development Pathways chapters). She is a member of the 'Healthy Environments and Lives' network and Co-Chairs the 'Sustainability, Climate Change and Health Collaboration' - both of which aim to improve coordination and collaboration between researchers and practitioners. Locally, she is a member of the Northern Rivers Health and Wellbeing flood recovery sub-committee, President of the South Golden Beach/New Brighton/Ocean Shores Community Resilience Team and board member of Plan C, a local not-for-profit focusing on building community resilience in the Northern Rivers. She has led research on the implications of climate change, including migration, for low lying atolls in Temotu Province, Solomon Islands for the Australian Government. She has contributed to policy development, design of governance arrangements, been an advisor for the UN, the Red Cross Movement, the World Bank, governments and NGOs and has contributed to improving the accessibility of early warning systems for improving health and safety of communities in the Asia/Pacific region.
