Ms Shannon Philp

Ms Philp is a Nurse Practitioner with nearly 30 years experience in cancer nursing and works clinically at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse in Gynaecological Oncology. In 2021 Shannon was named the HESTA Nurse of the Year.

In 2019, Shannon was awarded the Jeannie Ferris Cancer Australia Recognition Award.

Ms Philp has held several senior nursing roles, and initiated and leads the first Nurse-Led Gynaecological Oncology Aftercare and Follow up Clinic in Australia, to provide comprehensive post-surgical and ongoing follow up care to women with a gynaecological cancer. She is involved in nursing research and her current interests include patient experience of gestational trophoblastic disease and quality of life for women with vulval cancer. She is a member of the Cancer Care Research Unit, a consortium of Sydney Nursing School and the Sydney Local Health Network.

2021 HESTA Nurse of the Year. Shannon was nominated for her work with comprehensive cancer care provider Chris O’Brien Lifehouse and the Susan Wakil School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Sydney. This has led to invited presentations and increased my national profile.

2019 Awarded the Jeannie Ferris Cancer Australia Recognition Award which recognises outstanding contribution to improving the outcomes for women with gynaecological cancer.. This is a highly competitive national award, and nominees must demonstrate significant contribution to research in the area.
