Dr Sue Monaro
Midwifery Academic Operations.
Sue is a clinical leader in the field of vascular nursing and wound prevention and management with dual roles in the public health system as an advanced practice nurse in vascular surgery and clinical governance facilitator for skin integrity. She is the project manager for the Skin & Wound Integrated Model of care (SWIM) in Northern Sydney Local Health District. She sits on the New South Wales Pressure Injury Policy Group, the American Society of Vascular Nursing Research & Writing Group, and the International Pressure Injury Subject Matter Expert Writing group. Her doctoral thesis “Grappling with making decisions about amputation for Critical Limb Ischaemia: the patient and family experience” encapsulates her ongoing areas of research: peri-operative care of the frail, older person, end-of-life in cardiovascular disease, and the patient and family experience of vascular disease.
Sue undertakes clinical research and is currently the principal investigator for a mixed methods study evaluating the implementation of a Skin & Wound Integrated Model of Care, and a co-investigator on (i) a state-wide collaborative research project investigating hospital-acquired pressure injuries, (ii) the Endoanchor Device Registry, and (iii) the GeriCO-V study evaluating a model of care for the older patient with vascular disease. She is also an active member of the Australian Health Research Alliance which is leading an integrated approach to wound management research that will deliver optimal patient outcomes and reduce the economic burden of care.
