Associate Professor Xiang-Yu Hou

Xiang-Yu (Janet 侯香玉) was trained as a medical doctor in China and an epidemiologist in Australia. She graduated with Bachelor of Medicine from Shandong University in China, Master of Medicine by research from Peking University in China, and a PhD from Queensland University of Technology in Australia.

Janet worked as an acadmeic researcher in universities from Australia and overseas, Academic Dean for a private university in NSW, Director of International Research Development for a public universit in QLD, Project Manager at Department of Health DG's Office in QLD, and Medical Affaires Director for a USA company.

Janet enjoyed teaching epidemiology for undergraduate and postgraduate courses, supervised over 20 Higher Degree Research students to competion, and publsihed over 130 papers in peer reviewed journals in the areas of health services management and population health. Her research income is from diffferent sources of funding including over $3million from grants.

Since Nov 2024, Janet joined Broken Hill University Department of Rural Health as its Research Lead, a joint position with Far West Local Health District NSW as its Director of Research.
