University of Sydney celebrates Australia-China business excellence

The University of Sydney Business School sponsored the 2018 Westpac AustCham Australia-China Business Awards (ACBA) gala dinner, held in Shanghai last night.

The University of Sydney joined dignitaries and industry leaders to celebrate the achievements of Australian and Chinese business.

The sold-out gala dinner was sponsored by the University of Sydney Business School, where the winners of the 25th annual AustCham Westpac ACBAs were announced.

Professor Greg Whitwell, Dean of the University of Sydney Business School, said the School is committed to deepening engagement with China.

“We are incredibly proud of our long history collaborating with universities and industry partners in China," said Professor Whitwell.

“Whether it be through our research partnerships or extensive alumni network in China, the University of Sydney Business School is dedicated to establishing ongoing connections with our largest trading partner and neighbour country.”

The Business School sponsored the Business Excellence category for Business Innovation, Creative Industries and the Digital Economy, which was awarded to ANZ Global Services and Operations (Chengdu) Company Ltd, the largest Australian Company employer in Western China.

Executive Director of the University of Sydney Centre in China, Cathryn Hlavka, was part of the judging panel, which selected the winners of the eight award categories.

In 2016 Ms Hlavka was announced as the Executive Director of the Centre, based in the Suzhou Industrial Park Dushu Science, Education and Innovation District - the University’s first major facility outside of Australia.

The Honourable Steven Ciobo MP, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, addressed the crowd of 500 guests along with the Australian Ambassador to China, Her Excellency Ms Jan Adams AO PSM; and Managing Partner of Wagas Shanghai Ltd, Ms Jackie Yun.

The AustCham Australia-China Business Awards recognise the success of Australian and Chinese businesses, from small entrepreneurs through to large publicly listed companies.

The University of Sydney has more than 12,000 Chinese students on campus, and around 40,000 alumni living in China. We also have more than 200 academic staff studying China directly or collaborating with Chinese researchers.
